If it isn\u2019t treated, prostate cancer follows a natural course, starting as a tiny group of cancer cells that can grow into a full-blown tumor. In some men, prostate cancer that isn\u2019t treated can spread and cause death.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Who is at Risk?<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n\u2022 Every year more than 1,500 Ugandans are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and many more may have prostate cancer but not know about it. It is one of the most common forms of cancer in men around the world. The most common risk factor is age (over about 50 years of age). The older the man, the greater the chance of getting Prostate Cancer. Men who have a father, son, or brother who had prostate cancer are at an increased risk.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Symptoms of Prostate Cancer<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n\u2022 Weak or Interrupted flow of Urine<br \/>\n\u2022 Difficulty starting Urinating<br \/>\n\u2022 Difficulty emptying the bladder completely<br \/>\n\u2022 Pain or burning during urination<br \/>\n\u2022 Blood in the urine<br \/>\n\u2022 Pain in the back, hips, or pelvis that doesn\u2019t go away<br \/>\n\u2022 Painful Ejaculation<br \/>\nNB: If you have any symptoms that worry you, be sure to see your doctor right away. Keep in mind that these symptoms may be caused by conditions other than Prostate Cancer<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What Can You Do About It?<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n\u2022 A regular physical examination and a simple blood test (called a PSA test) are the keys to early diagnosis.<br \/>\n\u2022 You should start having regular physical exams and PSA tests in your mid 40s or early 50s.<br \/>\n\u2022 If you have a family history of prostate cancer, you should start having regular tests in your 40s.<br \/>\n\u2022 Early diagnosis will allow you to have early treatment, if this is necessary.<br \/>\n\u2022 If prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated early, then your risk of dying from this illness is small.<br \/>\n\u2022 If prostate cancer is diagnosed late (when it has spread to other parts of the body), then prostate cancer cannot be cured.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Prevention of prostate Cancer<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nBecause there is no proven prostate cancer prevention strategy, but one may reduce the risk of prostate cancer by making healthy choices, such as exercising and eating a healthy diet.<br \/>\n\u2022 Choose low fat diet<br \/>\n\u2022 Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat each day<br \/>\n\u2022 Exercise most days of the week<br \/>\n\u2022 Talk to your doctor about the risk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PROSTATE CANCER What is Prostate Cancer? \u2022 Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the prostate, a gland found right below the bladder.
